The Journey of Tōku Hā: Breathing New Life into Our Futures

At Tōku Hā, we are on a mission to help wāhine rediscover the power of their breath and embark on a journey toward better health and well-being. Our program is more than just a smoking cessation initiative—it’s a transformative experience that nurtures the body, mind, and spirit through the rich traditions of te ao Māori and many traditional world views.

Why We Focus on Breath

Breath is life. In te ao Māori, the breath is considered a sacred gift where all existance of the human face stem from, gifted from Tāne and passed down from our ancestors and carried forward to future generations. It connects us to our tīpuna (ancestors), to Papatūānuku (Mother Earth), and to each other. However, when our breath is compromised by smoking, it affects not only our health but also our connection to these deeper elements of our existence.

Tōku Hā is about reclaiming this gift. By supporting wāhine in their journey to quit smoking, we aim to restore the flow of our breath and empower our participants to live fuller, healthier lives.

What Makes Tōku Hā Unique?

Our program is built on the values of whanaungatanga (connection), manaakitanga (care), Hauoratanga (Health and Wellbeing) and kaitiakitanga (guardianship). Over six weeks, participants receive personalised support from experienced coaches, engage in group sessions or one-on-one guidance, and explore traditional practices like Rongoā Māori and ancient pūrākau. These elements are brought together to create a holistic approach that respects the uniqueness of each wāhine’s journey.

We also emphasize the importance of connecting with the natural world, feeling the magic of how our cells respond to the essence of our natural forces, our Atua that exist in these spaces. Our sessions often take place in environments that are significant in te ao Māori—by rivers, in forests, or other places where the presence of Papatūānuku and her children is strong. Here, participants can ground themselves, draw strength from these sources, and find peace in the rhythm of their own breath.

Celebrating Success

At Tōku Hā, we celebrate every step of the journey. Each participant who successfully quits smoking will be honored with a certificate and a $200 voucher, but the true reward lies in the personal growth and healing that takes place. We are here to support you not just in quitting smoking but in reclaiming the fullness of your life, your breath, and your future.

Join Us on This Journey

If you’re ready to take the first step toward a healthier, smoke-free life, we invite you to join us at Tōku Hā. Here, you’ll find a community that supports you, traditions that inspire you, and the guidance you need to make lasting change.

Together, we can breathe new life into our futures—one breath at a time.
